The Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department of Federal Medical Centre, Bida, has introduced a new service – Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) which is a form of Assisted Reproductive technique (ART).
The service which is now available in the Centre is aimed at assisting patients/individuals that have not been able to achieve pregnancy and live birth through the natural process of copulation between husband and wife. Some of the indications for this procedure include but are not limited to:

  1. Couple with unexplained infertility
  2. Couple who are not cohabiting for one reason or the other e.g husband working in Abuja but wife staying in Bida
  3. Women who developed an anti-sperm antibody to their husband’s sperm
  4. Women with anovulation problem
  5. Husband with mild oligospermia and/or asthenozoospermia

All the aforementioned conditions which are very common in our environment stand a very great chance of benefiting from this new service.
The leader of the Team Dr. F.B. Adewale said from his experience and statistics on causes of infertility in Bida and its environs, this service will go a long way in putting smiles on the faces of lots of families who have been longing to have their babies, as the process is an improvement on conventional methods of fertility treatment in the department. The Unit is in the process of recruiting its first batch of patients and they are already receiving a very high response from the patients.
The Management has been Magnanimous enough to ensure that this service is brought to the doorstep of the Community and at an affordable rate of just One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100,000.00) only as a technical fee. All the same, for those who cannot afford this, all hope is not lost; they can be scheduled for follicular tracking at the rate of Two Thousand Naira (N2,000.00) only per session followed by timed intercourse, to still achieve the same purpose.
He then called on the public to take advantage of this very new development and help themselves and their loved ones.
